Partnership Boards

In addition to our core functions we are continuing our support of Cornwall Council’s Learning Disability Partnership Board, Autism Partnership Boards, and Older Persons Partnership Boards, which we took on in June 2016.

From April 2018 we added the administration and development of the Carers Partnership Board too.

This followed on from Nuala Kiely joining us as the Healthwatch Cornwall Partnership Boards officer.

The Board meetings are attended by service users and family carers who are ‘experts by experience’ in these areas.

NHS, Cornwall Council and voluntary sector staff with direct experience specific to each Board are also members.

Agenda topics are responsive to current issues affecting services as well as ongoing work plans looking at developing strategies and commissioning plans for health and social care.

For example, the Cornwall Council Autism Strategy was signed off by the Autism Partnership Board following valued input of service user and carer members.

Ongoing Board work will include the Carers Strategy and looking at ways to implement the Needs Assessment for those with a learning disability.

There have been concerns that the Boards are not as effective as they could be and with that in mind Cornwall Council has commissioned Healthwatch Cornwall to conduct a comprehensive review.

We are working to ensure a more co-productive approach between those who use relevant services and those who design and commission them.

The review is looking at current membership, how individual Boards work, what effect they are having and the views of  those involved. We are also looking at how other Councils have developed their Boards.

We are seeking the views of current and ex-Board members, interested members of the community and representatives from health and social care organisations.
