Spinal referrals lifted
NHS Kernow has lifted the suspension of routine spinal referrals. This follows the publication of the new referral guidelines for Adult Low Back Pain and completion of the final tasks necessary to support full implementation of the new spinal pathway.
Direct referrals for AQP back therapy services (e.g. physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathic services) remain unchanged.
The pathway is the result of many hours of hard work lead by clinicians in primary care, radiology, pain management, orthopaedics and spinal surgery. Work will continue in conjunction with commissioners and clinicians across Devon and Cornwall to further develop the services available for patients with back pain, focusing on those requiring an intervention.
