Welcome to our new CEO
We welcome our new Chief Executive as we celebrate our fourth birthday.
Healthwatch Cornwall began on April 1, 2013, to help people create positive change in the county’s health and social care and we have now appointed Amanda Stratford, who has a strong background in the not for profit sector, to lead the organisation.
Amanda, who has worked as a director for charities such as the NSPCC, Unicef and Meningitis Now, and as a trustee for domestic abuse charities, said: “I look forward to working with the very dedicated staff and volunteer team at Healthwatch Cornwall.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to engage the diverse communities across the county to ensure publicly-funded health and social care services are the best they can be and make the biggest possible difference to people’s lives.”
During the past four years, the organisation has secured improvements in care covering dental, domiciliary, GP services, end-of-life and more.
This work is based on public feedback and led by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff with the current focus relating to the county’s Shaping Our Future plans that could see major change to service provision.
Amanda added: “These are challenging times for all of us and I am delighted, on returning to Cornwall after 30 years, to have the opportunity to guide this important public representative.
“I am keen to meet the various health and care sector stakeholders and learn more about the current and future picture for care in Cornwall, while making sure people have their voice heard in decision-making processes.”
On behalf of the board and team, interim Chair Jon McLeavy welcomed Amanda to the post at an exciting time for the organisation as it takes on other new staff and reviews its future work topics.
He said: “We all look forward to working with Amanda and developing the potential we have in continuing our success to date while considering other ways to sustain our function as the people’s health and social care champion.”
