Our Board of Directors
As Chief Executive, Amanda leads Healthwatch Cornwall in delivering its mission to ensure the public's voice is heard and acted on. She is responsible for operational planning, representing the organisation at a strategic level, governance, finances and legal compliance.
John is a retired consultant physician who worked for nearly 30 years in Cornish hospitals, dealing largely with elderly patients. After retirement he joined LINk in Cornwall to help ensure that Cornish patients get a fair deal from their health services. His local experience in the NHS has provided a good knowledge of the types of problems faced by hospital patients in particular. Healthwatch Cornwall is well placed, he feels, to act positively on patients’ behalf, and to provide useful information to the commissioners and providers of health and social care, so that they can act in the best interests of Cornish people.
Margaret has spent all of her professional life in the NHS. Her career as a Consultant Physician in Cornwall was in hospital practice in Care of the Elderly, Acute General Medicine and various sub-specialties.
Prior to becoming a director with Healthwatch Cornwall, Margaret volunteered with the former Local Involvement Network and became its elected representative on the Initiation Board for Healthwatch Cornwall. This role involved setting up Healthwatch Cornwall as a Community Interest Company and drafting the basic terms of reference, protocols and guidelines. She also acted as a founder member and Chair of the Healthwatch Cornwall Board.
Roger trained as a social worker, after which he moved on to a succession of management roles within Essex County Council leading to being appointed Head of Community Care.
Since taking early retirement he has provided health and social consultancy through his company Flying Free Management and has a key interest in organisational development. Having been associated with Health and Community Care Services throughout his working life, Roger was delighted to be appointed to the Board in 2018.
Babs is founder of The Chaos Group, a CIC working with vulnerable and disadvantaged people and she brings a wealth of experience in community engagement.
Deborah has worked as a commissioner with Cornwall Council’s housing department and is now a full time carer, so brings a welcome carer’s perspective to our planning.
Christine is a recently retired GP with extensive experience in volunteering.
