Sign our petition: Review decision to abolish independent local Healthwatch
The Government has announced plans to abolish local independent Healthwatch services, the very organisations that give people a voice in shaping health and social care. We believe this decision risks silencing communities, particularly those whose voices are often ignored.

We are asking the Government to:
- Revisit its decision to abolish local independent services that speak up for the public.
- Consult with the public to co-design a service that meets people’s needs and supports the NHS to achieve its ambitions.
- Invest in and strengthen independent services, rather than dismantle them.
Why this matters
Local independent Healthwatch services are rooted in their communities. We know the people, we understand the local challenges, and we work with health and care services to find solutions.
Independent Healthwatch organisations:
- Offer constructive challenge where things can improve.
- Help co-produce solutions with those facing the greatest health and care needs.
- Support the 10-Year Health Plan by listening without fear or favour.
A trusted, independent voice is essential to improving health and social care — now more than ever.
